Nature retreats in
Bellingen, NSW

There is a reason people have been coming to the Bellingen valley to slow down for generations. Gondwana rainforest older than flowering plants. River water you can drink. A town that never learned to hurry.

Away's home retreat sits at Fernmount, in the hills above the Bellinger River — a cabin, sauna and onsen on the edge of World Heritage-listed rainforest, twenty minutes from Bellingen town and thirty from Coffs Harbour airport.

It is also the only retreat in the shire where you can watch your nervous system recover in your own data.

Not accommodation. Restoration.

Bellingen has beautiful places to stay. This is something different.

Every Away experience at Fernmount is built around a single outcome: moving your nervous system from depleted to restored, and proving it happened. Wear a Halo cap for your visit — EEG and heart rate variability, read continuously — and see the difference a day in the rainforest makes, in black and white.

No signal past the gate. No schedule beyond what serves you. Just the oldest tools humans have — forest, heat, water, silence, breath — on land that has been doing this work for sixty million years.

Experiences at the Bellingen retreat

Away Day — from $220

The 3-Day Reset — from $1,350

Three days off-grid. The dose the research is named after: studies of multi-day nature immersion found roughly 50% improvements in creative problem-solving after 72 hours unplugged. This is that protocol, on Gondwana rainforest, measured. 3-Day Reset details →

The land

The retreat sits on the edge of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, the most extensive subtropical rainforest in the world and a living remnant of the ancient supercontinent. The property runs its own syntropic food forest, off-grid cabin and sauna infrastructure built on site, and walking access into old-growth forest.

This is also where the Away Halo is designed and made. The product and the place are the same idea: what restores a human nervous system is measurable, and this valley is where we measure it.

Where is the Away retreat located?

At Fernmount in Bellingen Shire, on the NSW Mid North Coast — about 10 minutes from Bellingen town and 30 minutes from Coffs Harbour airport, on the edge of Gondwana rainforest.

Can I visit for just one day?

Yes. The Away Day is a full-day retreat (cabin, sauna, onsen, food forest and rainforest) from $220, for 1–4 guests.

What makes this different from other Bellingen retreats?

Away is built around measurement. Guests can wear the Away Halo — an EEG and HRV cap — and see their own nervous system data shift across the visit. The retreat is also fully off-grid, with no phone signal past the gate.

Do I need any experience with meditation or breathwork?

No. Every experience is guided and complete in itself. There is no doctrine and nothing to already know.

How do I book?

Each experience takes applications through the site. There is no charge until your application is matched.
